Family Law Contempt

The governor of Nevada has filed for divorce from his wife of many years. One of the first things that must be done in every divorce is to exchange financial information called preliminary disclosures.

It is necessary to determine the disclosures so that settlement negotiations can begin. Contempt is one of the ways in which the court enforces its orders. The court can in certain instances send a party to jail to punish the party for disobedience.

The judges often order the party to sanctions but it is with the provision where the key is in their own hands. The party can control whether they go to jail or not by following the order. In this case it would be to provide disclosures to the other side.
