I recently read an article regarding the increase in people filing for divorce online and how it could be a sign of economic recovery. Economic experts say that during times hard times, many people find financial insecurity from filing for divorce undesirable and will often wait until they feel more secure. The boost in the number of online divorce filings could be good news. Is it a sign that the economy is making a turn for the better?
2010 is not yet over, but statistics confirm that more Americans are filing for divorce online in 2010 than in 2009. This could mean that more people are feeling financially secure and are ready to move on with the next step of their lives. There are also non-economic factors, such as; more people are opting for online divorce services in uncontested divorce matters. Many people may realize that the online divorce is the right choice for those uncontested matters with little to no assets and no children.
According to the article, several states have made it easier to get divorced. Most recently, as reported New York has accepted no fault divorce. There appears to be a greater ease when states enact no fault divorce, because the parties do not need to make an allegation of fault and finding regarding their reasons for divorce. It appears to make the divorce process less acrimonious. It should be noted that California is a no fault state. Californians do not require a reason to start a divorce proceeding.
