Most people know that divorce is not an easy process. It is one of the most difficult things a person can do. I came across some tips for people to protect their credit score during a divorce.

According to an american chronicle story, the article states one should obtain a credit report and address their credit problems immediately.

With items with secured credit, like a mortgage, the article recommends, selling the home and dividing the assets as the surest thing to do. Another option is to refinance the home to essentially buy one one party.

In terms of unsecured credit, like credit cards, the common sense thing to do is, to cancel your credit cards which have no balance, and ones with balances to freeze the accounts so that no new bills are added to it. The article advises to take out separate credit cards in your sole name after the date of separation to keep them separate debts.

If you have any questions, I am a San Jose divorce lawyer questions, my office practices family law in santa clara county and the surrounding bay area.
